Webinar: Recruitment Pathways that Lower Barriers to Inclusivity and Belongingness
Duration: 1.5 hours
Please join Midwest SETAC in this effort to spread awareness on increasing diversity within the STEM community and promoting inclusivity.
This virtual presentation was led by Dr. Anneke Lisberg, an Associate Professor at UW-Whitewater. She presented on supporting belongingness and success for persons underrepresented in STEM, focusing on how transitions through academic paths and into all professional sectors (academia, government, industry) can influence how people engage in the scientific community. As a society, SETAC is committed to increasing diversity within our membership, but many people might feel unsure or powerless about how to contribute to this mission. Dr. Lisberg’s presentation provided a safe space to engage in conversations and reflection around issues of concern for persons of underrepresented minority (URM) groups in the sciences. As a discipline, in order to tackle issues of environmental justice, environmental toxicology and chemistry, we must challenge the barriers that have led to diminished inclusion of the communities most targeted by environmental injustice. We feel this discussion is vital to our continued growth as a society.
